I can't even remember how long ago I saw this title near the Fred Meyer customer service area. You know the videos they want you to look at and buy while you're waiting in line? I saw 'Julie and Julia'
and wondered about the movie. Little did I know that years later I would pick it up at the library and have the time of my life smiling all the way through. It was delightful and fun. It's hard to explain what it was that happened to me other than to say that Julia Child loved to cook and loved to share about cooking. She was a fun, quirky, enthusiastic woman who decided to step out and try something new, in a new environment even if it meant stepping out into a man's world. Her core message could be: doing things correctly and taking the time to get it right, to work hard and learn your technique and also to have fun.

After it was all done, I wanted to eat, I wanted to cook and I wanted to watch some videos about her from long ago. What fun that was! She had her own style. In the early days of TV, the shows were live so EVERYTHING was aired, even the mistakes. I think one of my favorites was the time she tried to flip a mashed potato pancake. She said you have to have confidence otherwise it won't work. Well it didn't work and part of it landed on the stove. She picked it up, put it back in the pan and said, "No one will ever know!"

I don't thing I would have been drawn to watch or learn about Julia Child on my own, but I'm so glad I did because I've been stuck and procrastinating with getting started with my blog. I now have inspiration. Julia just had so much fun with all aspects of cooking and eating and being in front of the camera for her cooking classes.

My mom gave me a cookbook years ago that Julia Child and her friend, Jacques, co-authored. I just found out (although she probably told me at the time and I didn't remember) that she attended a book signing day in San Francisco at Sur la Table kitchen shop, so my copy is autographed! How cool is that!
